SHARKS vs BLUES
Joe Thornton had one shot, no points and was not named a game star.
He played an outstanding hockey game.
His Overall contribution level at even strength in Game 1 ranks 3rd in this year's playoffs thus far.
How did he do it? Thornton's vision was on display as he created multiple offensive advantages for his teammates primarily making plays with his passing skills; forehand, forehand sauce, backhand and 1 touch. There are nights when an offensive Player will "give back" some of his Offensive Contributions by making Defensive mistakes. Not on this night, Joe's positioning and well executed active stick drove his Contribution even higher.
Paul Martin also made some strong Defensive Plays, and along with a strong Offensive Contribution, made him San Jose top Contributing defenseman. His best game of the Playoffs thus far.
Another Defenseman who stepped up was Jay Bouwmeester. He led St. Louis defenseman with his best Defensive game of the Playoffs by a large margin.
