Lightning vs Penguins
In Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals, "The Pens were fun to watch."
PIT's forward group had their highest Offensive Contribution of the playoffs and only a great game by TBL Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy prevented it from being a blowout.
But the story behind the story was the Defensive Contribution of the PIT forwards.
The PIT forwards, as a group, contributed almost 4 times as much defensively as TBL's forwards.
Sidney Crosby and Patric Hornqvist had great Active Sticks on the Forecheck, creating turnovers and quickly flipping to offense in close proximity to Tampa's net.
When PIT did have to play in Defensive Zone Coverage, Nick Bonino led the way by closing both passing and shooting lanes.
Interesting to note that Brian Dumoulin had his weakest game of the playoffs, but, when your surrounding cast is covering so well, mistakes quickly get cleaned up and forgotten.
On the other hand, Phil Kessel led all PIT forwards, recording his best Overall game of the playoffs and regular season.
What's most impressive is that Kessel's defensive contribution was a big part of his great Overall performance. Game 4 could be noteworthy for Kessel as his two previous game 4's in this years playoffs have been his weakest two games of the playoffs.
Not much to note for the Lightning other than Ondrej Palat was their strongest Overall Contributor.
